Rockville serves as both a city and the county seat of Montgomery County, Maryland, within the Washington metropolitan area. Its early history dates back to 8000 BC with semi-nomadic Native American settlements along Rock Creek, Cabin John Creek, and Watts Branch. Major General Edward Braddock notably stopped at Owen's Ordinary in Rockville in 1755 during a mission to assert British claims.
