Sabang is a city located on Weh Island, off the northern tip of Sumatra, Indonesia. Historically, it served as a crucial port, initially as a coal station for the Dutch navy in the late 19th century. During WWII, the island was occupied by Japan and heavily fortified, later becoming the target of Operation Cockpit in 1944.
