Saint-Chamond is a commune in the Loire department, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, France, 13 km northeast of Saint-Étienne. Originally a Roman fort guarding aqueducts supplying Lugdunum (Lyon), it developed in an iron and coal region. The town merged with surrounding communes in 1964, becoming the third-largest in the department.
