Summary
Saint-Nazaire is a port town in western France, located in the Loire-Atlantique department and traditionally part of Brittany. It developed significantly during the Industrial Revolution due to railway construction and seaport growth. During WWII, it was a key German submarine base and heavily damaged by Allied bombing, remaining under occupation until May 1945.
