Summary
Salamanca is a Chilean city and commune within the Coquimbo Region, situated east of Illapel. Founded in 1844 by Governor Joaquín de Ceballo on land previously owned by Matilde Salamanca, it developed from a hacienda. The city is served by Las Brujas Airport and lies along the Choapa River.
