Salonta is a city in Bihor County, Romania, situated in the Crișana region near the Hungarian border. First documented in 1214 as Zolonta, it became a sanjak center under Ottoman rule until 1692. The city is known as the birthplace of poet János Arany and author Lajos Zilahy.
