Summary
Santa Bárbara is a Chilean city and commune in Bío Bío Province. Established as a fort in 1756 by Manuel de Amat y Juniet, it became a key defense against Pehuenche raids. The town was rebuilt after being burned in 1821 and officially recognized in 1871.
