Socorro, Santander

Socorro is a historic town in the Santander Department of Colombia, founded in 1681 by wealthy landowners. It played a pivotal role in national history as the site of the 1781 Comuneros revolt against Spanish colonial rule. The town served as the capital of the State of Santander during the late 19th century.
