Summary
Socotá is a municipality located in the Boyacá department of Colombia, situated within the Eastern Ranges of the Andes. Before the Spanish conquest, the area was part of the Muisca Confederation and ruled by the iraca of Sugamuxi. The modern town was officially founded in 1602 by Gonzalo Sanchez de Flandes.
