Summary

Sogamoso is a city in the Boyacá department of Colombia, known as the City of the Sun due to its Muisca heritage. It served as the site of the sacred Sun Temple, which was destroyed by Spanish conquistadors under Gonzalo Jiménez de Quesada in 1537. The city is situated at a high altitude within the Eastern Ranges of the Colombian Andes.
