Summary
Sokal is a city on the Bug River in the Lviv Oblast of western Ukraine, which received Magdeburg rights in 1424. Historically part of the Bełz Voivodeship and later the Austrian province of Galicia, it was a significant center for the Bernardine monks. The town suffered immense tragedy during the Holocaust when its Jewish population was deported to the Bełżec extermination camp.
