Veľké Slemence is a municipality in the Michalovce District of the Košice Region. The village was historically divided in 1945 by the border between Czechoslovakia and the Soviet Union, splitting it into Slovak and Ukrainian parts. A symbolic Székely gate was installed in 2003 to commemorate unity.
