Summary
Viña del Mar, meaning "Vineyard of the Sea", is a city on Chile's Pacific coast, known as "The Garden City". Founded in 1874 by José Francisco Vergara, it developed from lands inherited from his wife, Mercedes Alvares. The city's origins trace back to vineyards planted in 1580 by Alonso de Riberos.
