Walnut Creek is a city in Contra Costa County, California, situated in the East Bay region of the San Francisco Bay Area. Originally inhabited by the Bay Miwok, the area was part of the Rancho Arroyo de Las Nueces y Bolbones land grant. The city's name derives from Walnut Creek, named for the local California Walnut trees.
