Summary
Wellington is a city and the county seat of Sumner County, Kansas, established in 1871. Named after the Duke of Wellington, it grew with the arrival of cattle herders along the Chisholm Trail. A significant F4 tornado struck the city in 1892, causing substantial damage and loss of life.
