Yamagata (city)

Yamagata is the capital city of Yamagata Prefecture, situated in the Tōhoku region of northern Japan. Historically, the area was part of Dewa Province and flourished as a castle town during the Edo period. Founded in 1889, it became the prefecture's administrative center with the establishment of modern municipalities.
