Zacatecas (city)

Zacatecas, the capital of Zacatecas state, originated as a Spanish mining camp in the 16th century. Its wealth stemmed from rich silver deposits known to indigenous peoples beforehand. The city was a key site during the Mexican Revolution, notably captured by Francisco Villa.
