Austria’s history is deeply intertwined with the Habsburg dynasty, who for centuries shaped the political and cultural landscape of Central Europe. The Roman province of Noricum, encompassing much of modern Austria, provided a foundation for later settlements and trade routes, influencing the region’s early development. The medieval Babenberg dynasty established Austria as a duchy, laying the groundwork for its eventual rise to an archduchy and then an empire.
