Czech Republic

The lands of what is now Czechia have a rich history dating back to the 9th century with the establishment of the Duchy of Bohemia. Bohemia rose to prominence within the Holy Roman Empire, eventually becoming a kingdom in 1198, and playing a significant role in Central European affairs. The Thirty Years' War, sparked by the Bohemian Revolt, dramatically reshaped the political landscape and solidified Habsburg control for centuries. Following the dissolution of Austria-Hungary, Czechoslovakia was formed in 1918, representing a period of national independence. Today, the Czech Republic continues to build upon its historical foundations as a modern, democratic nation within the European Union.
