Summary
The Kingdom of the Netherlands was established in 1815 after Napoleon's defeat, uniting territories previously under French and Austrian rule. William Frederick, Prince of Orange, became its first king, uniting the Dutch Republic and Southern Netherlands. The Kingdom comprises four constituent countries: the Netherlands, Aruba, Curaçao, and Sint Maarten, each with a degree of autonomy.
