North Korea

The Korean Peninsula has a long and complex history, with evidence of habitation dating back to the Paleolithic period. Early Korean kingdoms emerged, documented in ancient Chinese records, laying the foundation for a distinct cultural identity. The subsequent unification under Silla and Balhae ushered in periods of relative stability and flourishing arts and sciences. Centuries of dynastic rule followed, including the Goryeo and Joseon dynasties, shaping Korean society and governance. The 20th century brought colonization by Japan and ultimately, division into North and South Korea following World War II.
