Summary
The Democratic Republic of Yemen was a short-lived breakaway state declared in May 1994 during the Yemeni Civil War. It claimed the territory of the former South Yemen with its capital in Aden and was led by Ali Salem al‑Beidh. The entity failed to gain international recognition and collapsed by July 1994.
