Dominion of Ceylon

The Dominion of Ceylon was an independent Commonwealth realm from 1948 until 1972, when it became a republic and was renamed Sri Lanka. It retained the British monarch as head of state, represented locally by a governor-general. The transition marked the end of colonial constitutional ties while preserving many legal and administrative structures.
