Summary
The Duchy of Carinthia was an imperial state located in the southern regions of the Holy Roman Empire. It was separated from the Duchy of Bavaria in the tenth century and later integrated into the Habsburg dominions. The region eventually formed the basis for the modern Austrian state of Carinthia.
