Gilbert and Ellice Islands

The Gilbert and Ellice Islands were a British protectorate and later a colony in the Pacific Ocean. The territory was administered as part of the British Western Pacific Territories until its dissolution. It eventually split into the independent nations of Tuvalu and Kiribati.
