Italian Regency of Carnaro

The Italian Regency of Carnaro was a short-lived self-proclaimed state centered in the city of Fiume. It was led by the poet and military officer Gabriele D'Annunzio following the First World War. The entity emerged due to nationalist dissatisfaction with post-war territorial settlements.
