Summary
Klein Vrystaat, meaning 'Little Free State', was a short-lived Boer republic established in present-day South Africa near Piet Retief. It originated from land purchased from Swazi King Mbandzeni by Boers in 1876, gaining a formal government in 1886. The republic was ultimately incorporated into the South African Republic (Transvaal) in 1891.
