Summary
The Ligurian Republic was a French client state established by Napoleon in 1797 from the former Republic of Genoa. It encompassed much of the Liguria region in Northwest Italy and Savoyard fiefs. The republic experienced periods of Austrian occupation and French restoration, ultimately being annexed by the First French Empire in 1805.
