Summary
The Sultanate of Muscat and Oman was a sovereign state ruled by the Al Busaid dynasty that encompassed modern Oman and parts of the UAE and Pakistan. Following the death of Said bin Sultan in 1856, the Omani Empire split into the Sultanate of Muscat and Oman and the Sultanate of Zanzibar. It transitioned into the modern Sultanate of Oman after the 1970 palace coup that deposed Said bin Taimur.
