Summary
The Viceroyalty of New Spain was a vast territorial entity of the Spanish Empire with its capital in Mexico City. Established in 1535 following the conquest of the Aztec Empire, it governed territories across North America, the Caribbean, and parts of Asia. It was the first of the Spanish viceroyalties and a primary source of silver wealth for the Habsburg crown.
