Summary
The Parthenopean Republic was a French‑backed sister republic in southern Italy, proclaimed on 21 January 1799. It was named after the ancient Greek colony Parthenope, now part of Naples. The republic collapsed on 13 June 1799 when royalist forces restored Ferdinand IV.
