Summary
The Peruvian Republic emerged in 1838 from a secession of the Peru-Bolivian Confederation, led by General Luis Orbegoso. It encompassed North Peru, declaring independence but facing opposition from the Confederation. The republic ceased to exist after defeat by Agustín Gamarra's forces in 1839.
