Summary
The Principality of Serbia emerged from the Serbian Revolution, gaining autonomy from the Ottoman Empire in 1828-1833. It was initially an autonomous province, paying tribute to Istanbul while expanding its territory through the 1830s. Full international recognition of its independence came with the Treaty of Berlin in 1878, before becoming a kingdom in 1882.
