Summary
The Qarmatian state flourished in the 9th and 10th centuries, controlling much of the Persian Gulf region. It was founded by Abu Sa'id al-Jannabi and challenged the Abbasid Caliphate's authority. The state was known for its extensive agricultural estates and reliance on slave labor, particularly Ethiopians.
