Summary
The Republic of German-Austria emerged after WWI as a rump state for German-speaking populations of the former Austro-Hungarian Empire. It aimed for unification with Germany, but this was prohibited by the Treaty of Versailles. Its authority was largely limited to the Danubian and Alpine provinces, with significant territories claimed but administered by Czechoslovakia.
