Summary
The Republic of Haiti (1820-1849) emerged from the reunification of Haiti under Jean-Pierre Boyer after the fall of the Kingdom of Haiti. It encompassed the occupation of Spanish Santo Domingo, uniting the entire island of Hispaniola. Boyer's authoritarian rule as president-for-life ended in 1843, preceding the Second Empire.
