Summary
The Second Empire of Haiti existed from 1849 to 1859, established by Faustin Soulouque who declared himself Emperor Faustin I. His attempts to reconquer the Dominican Republic were unsuccessful due to US and Spanish interference. The empire ended with a revolution led by Fabre Geffrard, forcing Soulouque's abdication in 1859.
