Summary
The Second Republic of Venezuela was proclaimed by Simón Bolívar on August 7, 1813, following victories against royalist forces. It emerged after Bolívar's exile and his appeal to the United Provinces of New Granada for support. The republic ultimately fell after defeats by José Tomás Boves and the reoccupation of Caracas in 1814.
