Summary
The State Union of Serbia and Montenegro existed from 1992 to 2006, succeeding the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. It was initially known as the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, but transitioned to a political union in 2003. Montenegro's secession in 2006 led to the independence of both Serbia and Montenegro.
