Sierra Leone Colony and Protectorate

The Colony and Protectorate of Sierra Leone was a British colonial administration that existed from 1808 until 1961. It originated from the resettlement of freed slaves and Black Pioneers in the Granville Town area near Freetown. The territory was governed under the motto Auspice Britannia liber until it achieved independence.
