Spanish Netherlands

The Spanish Netherlands comprised the Seventeen Provinces of the Low Countries under the rule of the Spanish Habsburgs. This territory was a major theater of the Eighty Years' War, leading to the eventual independence of the Dutch Republic. The region remained under Spanish control until the Treaty of Utrecht.
