Summary

The Sultanate of Lahej, ruled by the Abdali dynasty, was a significant state in Southern Arabia centered in Lahij. It gained independence in 1740 following the decline of the Zaidi State in northern Yemen. The sultanate later became part of the British Aden Protectorate until 1967.
