Summary
The Sultanate of Muscat and Oman was a sovereign state in southeastern Arabia ruled by the Al Busaid dynasty. It emerged as a distinct entity following the split of the Omani Empire in 1856 after the death of Said bin Sultan. The state transitioned into the modern Sultanate of Oman in 1970.
