Summary
Tanganyika was a colonial territory in East Africa administered by the United Kingdom from 1916 until 1961. It transitioned from a League of Nations mandate to a United Nations trust territory following the Second World War. The region eventually merged with Zanzibar to form the modern state of Tanzania.
