Summary
Tlaxcala was a pre-Columbian city-state in central Mexico that maintained independence from the Aztec Empire. The Tlaxcalteca people famously allied with Spanish conquistadors to facilitate the fall of Tenochtitlan. It was governed by a council of political officials known as teteuctin.
