Summary
The Republic of Aras was a short-lived state in the South Caucasus, established in December 1918. It was named after the Aras River and supported by the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic and the Ottoman Empire. The republic's existence ended in mid-1919 after conflict with Armenia, but was briefly reclaimed before falling under Azerbaijani control.
