Summary
The United States of Indonesia was a federal state established in 1949 following the Dutch-Indonesian Round Table Conference. It represented the formal transfer of sovereignty from the Netherlands to the Indonesian people, excluding Netherlands New Guinea. The federal structure was replaced by a unitary republic less than a year later.
