Summary
Venda was a Bantustan established by the South African government for the Venda people in northern South Africa. It bordered Zimbabwe and Gazankulu, and its capital was moved from Sibasa to Thohoyandou in 1979. Despite declaring independence in 1979, Venda was never internationally recognized.
