Weimar Republic

The Weimar Republic existed between 1918 and 1933, marking Germany's first attempt at a constitutional republic. It emerged from the aftermath of World War I and the abdication of Kaiser Wilhelm II, with its constituent assembly held in Weimar. Despite a period of stability in the 1920s, the Great Depression led to its downfall and the rise of Nazism.
