Yemen Arab Republic

The Yemen Arab Republic, often called North Yemen, was a sovereign state established in 1962 following a military coup that ended the local monarchy. It maintained a complex geopolitical position during the Cold War, balancing relations between Western powers and the Soviet Union. In 1990, it unified with South Yemen to form the modern Republic of Yemen.
